1Old form of smart identity cards issued before 26 November 2018 will be invalidated in two phases in 2025. Phase I of the invalidation exercise will cover holders of old form of smart identity cards born in 1970 or after whose old cards will become invalid on 12 May 2025. Phase II of the invalidation exercise will cover holders of old form of smart identity cards born in 1969 or before whose old cards will become invalid on 12 October 2025.

Registration Steps

  1. Open the "iAM Smart" mobile app
  2. Select "Register now"
  3. Select "18 or over"
  4. Select "Start"
  5. Read the applicant statement and terms of use carefully
  6. Select "Enable voice navigation" or "Mute" (choose whether to provide you with voice navigation when scanning Hong Kong Identity Card (HKIC) and facial identification)
  7. Scan the HKIC according to the instructions, and let the app to read the HKIC information and verify the authenticity of the HKIC
  8. Align your face with the photo frame on the screen and follow instructions to complete the actions for real person, undergo glare liveness detection and facial identification
  9. Wait for the identity verification
  10. Perform mobile phone built-in biometric authentication
  11. Setup "iAM Smart" 6 digital password
  12. Provide Email Address
  13. "iAM Smart" registration is completed

Registration Steps

  1. Open the "iAM Smart" mobile app
  2. Select "Register now"
  3. Select "11 to 17"
  4. Select "Start"
  5. Parent or guardian* log in with their "iAM Smart" account and scan the QR code from the applicant's mobile phone to agree the registration
  6. Parent or guardian read and agree the parent or guardian statement and terms of use carefully
  7. The applicant is accompanied by a parent/guardian to agree the applicant statement and terms of use carefully
  8. Select "Enable voice navigation" or "Mute" (choose whether to provide you with voice navigation when scanning Hong Kong Identity Card (HKIC) and facial identification)
  9. Scan the HKIC according to the instructions, and let the app to read the HKIC information and verify the authenticity of the HKIC
  10. Align your face with the photo frame on the screen and follow instructions to complete the actions for real person, undergo glare liveness detection and facial identification
  11. Wait for the identity verification

*Consent of parent or guardian is required for Hong Kong residents aged from 11 to 17 to register for "iAM Smart", so as to ensure the registrant understands the terms of use and personal information collection statement of "iAM Smart" The accompanying parent or guardian must be "iAM Smart" User.
